That's Teacher Simona to you

At the end of September my mom told me that the principal of River Heights Elementary had called and offered her a job. My mom had to turn the job down because she already has a job but she told him that I would be interested in a second job. I was not expecting anything to come of it, but a couple of days later the principal called me. He offered me a job that is everyday for 2 hours. I teach Corrective Reading to 3rd graders for 45 minutes then I aid in a Kindergarten classroom for an hour and a half. It is one of the most fun things I have ever done thus far.

The third graders that I am teaching to read are finally getting a hang of the class and we are getting through a lesson a day. We all enjoy the lessons and I find joy in teaching kids how to read. I thought it was going to be hard but the program is very scripted and all I have to do is read instructions straight out of the book. There were some discipline problems in the beginning but not that I have made a connection with the kids we are getting along well. I have only had to kick a kid out two times.

The kindergarten class is the part of the day that I look forward to the most. When I walk into that room I become "Teacher Simona". It was so funny at first when the kids were trying to say my name. Nobody can ever say it right when they first learn it. It is so fun watching kids learn and soak up so much information. When I walk in the room they all run to hug me and when we leave at the end of the day they give me another hug. I think some of the little guys have a crush on me. It is so funny! On Monday and Wednesday Teacher Matt comes in and aides with me too. Too bad he is married....but we are the same age so we get along well. The kids are working on Thanksgiving thankful books this week. Today the kids had to draw pictures of their friends. One little boy drew a picture of me and Teacher Matt. It was so funny. He said that we were his best friends and he was being honest too! It is so fun to see them get excited about holidays also. Everyday they count down the days to the Thanksgiving feast which is on Tuesday and then Thanksgiving on Thursday. I love going into this classroom everyday!
